21-year-old violinist Benjamin Beilman is rapidly gaining attention for his “impeccable” playing, “eloquence and flair” (MusicalAmerica.com).  His numerous accolades have thrust him onto stages across North America. First Prize Winner of the 2010 Montréal International Musical Competition and winner of the People’s Choice Award, he appears this season as soloist with L’Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal under Yannick Nézet-Séguin, with L’Orchestre Symphonique de Québec at the International Festival at Domaine Forget, with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, and will make his debut performances of the Jennifer Higdon Violin Concerto with the South Dakota and Glens Falls symphonies.

Mr. Beilman performs in recitals as part of the 2011-12 Young Concert Artist Series in New York, sponsored by the Peter Jay Sharp Prize and the Summis Auspiciis Prize, in Washington, DC at the Kennedy Center, as well as in Boston at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, all as a result of winning First Prize in the 2010 Young Concert Artists International Auditions. He was also awarded three performance prizes: from the Buffalo Chamber Music Society, the Candlelight Concert Society (MD), and the Friends of Music Concerts (NY). Additional highlights of the 2011-2012 season will include recitals with the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, the Montréal Bach Festival, and the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, among others.

An avid chamber musician, Mr. Beilman joins the CMS Two roster in the 2012-13 season.  He has participated in the Marlboro Music Festival since the age of 17, and toured with “Musicians from Marlboro” last season.  He has also appeared at Music from Angel Fire Festival (NM), the Verbier Festival and on Ravinia’s “Rising Stars” series. 

Winner of the Prince of Hesse Prize at the 2011 Kronberg Academy (Taunus, Germany), Mr. Beilman also captured the Bronze Medal at the 2010 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, where he was awarded the prize for the best Bach performance and best performance of the Mozart sonata. His other awards include the First Prize in the 2009 Schmidbauer and Corpus Christi International Competitions in Texas, where he was awarded the special Bach prize, the Gold Medal at the Stulberg International String Competition (MI), was the Grand Prize winner of the American String Teachers Association Competition in 2007 and Third Prize winner in the 2006 Johansen International Competition for Young String Players.  Mr. Beilman was a winner of the Astral Artists’ 2009 National Auditions and the Milka/Astral Violin Prize.

Mr. Beilman made his Philadelphia Orchestra debut with conductor Rossen Milanov in June 2009, performing Beethoven’s Romance, which The Philadelphia Inquirer praised for its “emotional weight” and “distinctive, full-bodied sound.”  As the recipient of Philadelphia’s prestigious Musical Fund Society Career Advancement Award in 2010, Mr. Beilman will be presented in recital by the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society.  He was a 2007 Presidential Scholar in the Arts and recipient of a Gold Award in Music from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts. 

Deemed a “wonderful recording” (La Scena Musicale, QC), Mr. Beilman released his debut album of Prokofiev’s complete sonatas for violin and piano on Analekta in 2010. He has been heard on National Public Radio’s “Performance Today” and “From the Top;” on WQXR’s McGraw-Hill “Young Artists Showcase;” and Chicago WFMT’s “Impromptu.” 

Mr. Beilman works with Ida Kavafian (YCA Alumna) and Pamela Frank at the Curtis Institute of Music.  He worked previously with Almita and Roland Vamos at the Music Institute of Chicago.
