Winner of the Jean
Fergus First Prize at the 2009 Young Concert Artists International
Auditions, flutist Aleksandr Haskin made recital debuts last
season in New York, sponsored by the Peter Jay Sharp Prize, and at the
Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. His first U.S. recital tour includes
performances and educational residencies with the Brownville Concert
Series and at the Strauss Performing Arts Center in Omaha, and
appearances with the University of Georgia at Athens and Missouri State
University.
At the YCA Auditions, Mr.
Haskin was also awarded the Leona Green Award for Winds, the Paramount
Theater Prize (VT) and the Usedom Music Festival Prize (Germany). He
appeared in the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival and won top prizes at the
2008 Penderecki Flute Competition, the 2005 International Contemporary
Chamber Music Competition in Krakow, Poland, and the Astana
International Music Competition in Kazakhstan.
As co-principal flutist of
the Qatar Philharmonic, Mr. Haskin has performed under conductor Lorin
Maazel at the Kennedy Center, Teatro alla Scala in Milan and Teatro
Massimo in Palermo. He has given recitals in the Great Hall of the
Moscow Conservatory and appeared as concerto soloist with the Bolshoi
Theatre Orchestra, the Musica Viva Chamber Orchestra and the Moscow
Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, among others.
Hailing from Minsk, Belarus,
Mr. Haskin graduated with a Doctorate from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory
in Moscow, under the tutelage of Alexander Golyshev. He received career
grants from the Guzik Foundation in Moscow and a scholarship to the Yale
University School of Music, where he studied with Ransom Wilson and won
the Woolsey Concerto Competition to perform as a concerto soloist with
the Yale Philharmonic. |
